Welcome to Durham Heart!

Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death globally and the number of end stage heart failure patients is increasing. Durham Heart is a project with the mission to design, prototype and test a Total Artificial Heart (TAH).

We are driven by the prospect of saving lives and a passion for developing novel solutions to a serious global challenge; thus making a real-world impact. Durham Heart has over 30 students working together on the mechanical, electrical, electronic and control aspects of the device. The project is based in the Bioengineering newly refurbished labs, within the Durham Engineering Department.
